Unique as it is, based solely on the medium and method used, three possible reactions by *stigmatattoo takes it one step further by being eerily thought-provoking. Full view for detail. ( Suggested by zeruch and Featured by frail )

I won't actually pretend to get it,

But I love it because it's pretty damn demented!
I mean,
The expressions...
They're frightening!
And even as this is titled 'Three Possible Reactions'
Their expressions all seem a lot the same...
So it messes with my mind more!

The knife?
The fork?
The spoon?
I'm sure I must be missing some sort of symbolism...
So I'm having to make my own up,
And alongside the faces,
It's making me think of self-destruction...
Of the way we eat each other and ourselves up...
Tear each other apart...

I know this all sounds cheesey, my commenting skills lately suck...

But this piece is just so disquieting to me,
Not in a tacky 'dark art' sort of way...
In a way that it seems to pick at something deep and dark.

Also, actually,
It strikes me as strangely comical,
So I don't know whether to laugh or cry.

+the fact that you picked out so many things for it, or even took the time to let things come to you or make up your own makes your comment worthwhile. i did explain the cutlery symbols and the story behind this somewhere in here, so it's there if you really want to know. still i think you did good enough on your own, and i thank you for that.+

I didn't understand it or see what was so special about it until I read one of the comments on the comments... maybe you should have stated that within the description, otherwise the forks and spoons and faces with teeth make little sense. It's one of those art pieces that doesn't stand by itself... to me the story is the only thing that gives it meaning.

(that wasn't meant to sound harsh...)

+and maybe Magritte should have issued a leaflet explaining what he meant with "this is not a pipe", otherwise a drawing of a pipe with that written underneath doesn't make much sense (keeping the distance, of course). it should have made you feel something, and if it didn't... my fault, of course. can't get to everybody. i guess we keep coming back to the quality of DD's issue. i don't know, really. thanks anyways, Charlene.+

I hadn't meant my comment to sound harsh at all. I'm just saying the story was much deeper than the art alone that made me kind scratch my head in confusion, though once I read the story it made sense.

Not that I'm against odd art... I certainly like things that are weird or different, or taking abstract thought and trying to illustrate it. Although my interpetation of what it meant would be totally different form what you intented it to mean. it did make me feel somethnig... with the knife, fork, and spoon seetings it said something about dinner, but with those faces and the sketchy style, it seemed unappetizing. Though I thought it was their reactions to food (they seemed disgusted), not them being food ... and never would have guessed it was a conversation you had with a friend or anything like that. Once I knew that it did seem much more moving, as I rmeeber odd conversations I've had with friends that I've lost about dead rats and such... but if I drew a dead rat, I wouldn't automaticly assume people would understand that it was something humourous to someone close to me. It's just the whole out of context thing...

ooh, I'm babbling. I'll stop now.

+i think people are pissed because the quality of DD's has been going down steadily. now i don't know what this makes of me. i don't think this is a bad piece, but i certainly don't think it's my best. hopefully some people will take the time to look into my gallery besides from just dropping a one-liner and compulsively clicking the fav button.+

Hohoho..
I rarely view the daily dev, but I think less "talented" artists can create raw and interesting works just as well as the ego-consumed savants that recieve a monthly DD.

At this rate..maybe even my artistic butchery could land a DD.
I think most of the negative comments, based on the tone and the root of the critique, stem from envy.
Sadly, a lot of artists base their work off of the approval of others..or worse yet, admin...and view Devart as some sort of contest.

+it is strange, isn't it? i mean, philosophically, creation fulfills a need in the artist and consolidates a certain "view" that should be singular to him/her/it... i can hardly see how to subjugate the creative act to what others may think of the piece, or if it will be approved of by whatever peanut gallery the "artist" (have to ironize a bit here) aims the art to. DA can be an ego-trip... it certainly does a nice shiatsu to mine sometimes, but the fixation some have is downright unhealthy in my view. envy... i hardly ever get hate mail, and the neg comments spawned from this Daily Dev business seemed more like people who either misinterpreted the piece or were untouched by it. the first i can do nothing about, i explained the symbols and story behind it, which i never do. the latter... i can't do much about. the work is there, someone thought it was good enough (`zeruch, who is someone whose art i admire, and finally ^frail who went for it and who i had never hard of until that day and i'm grateful for the chance he gave me), and the % of positive, thoughtful comments against negative ones is encouraging. is it worth it? well, it was fun. i do have a shitload of messages to clear out and as much as i work on them they don't seem to lessen a bit, and i loathe to leave them unaknowledged... so it's a bit of a pain as well. interesting works everywhere, yes. DA is a place with many unexplored rooms.+

Wise words!
Yes, the positive by far outweighs the negatives here on DA.
I've never before had access to so many artistic minds before I joined the fun a year ago.
It's addictive.

I checked out zeruch's stuff, the guy's a genius.
I'll be sure to check out others you recommend, I fear I've spent too much time scouring the anime and the macabre lately..but there's just so MUCH of it!

I'm sorry but I just don't see what is so big about this. At best all I can say is their mouths are all messed up, like they can't speak right. So their looks at whatever it is theiy're looking at must be the results of the reactions they can't verbalize. What the significance of the utensils on the bottom are I don't know. This is like poetry where they say "coffee table" for no reason whatsoever.

Sorry, but I'm not about to kiss-ass just because of the status this reached. Sorry if my honesty isn't what you think this picture deserves, but I seriously don't see what is so special about this. Yes it looks cool and all, but to me it's more like three face-shots of characters designed for the next "Nightmare Before Christmas" or something.

+aaah... so you must be the stone in my shoe. i had no idea this made daily dev. in fact, i read your message first and clicked on the damn thing to find out what the hell were you talking about when you say "the status it reached"... i do appreciate honesty, and about what the piece deserves... hmm. i think it, as whatever else i put in my gallery, deserves respect. now, wether you like it or not, it's beyond me. now, if you take the time to read this, i will tell you a story. some 4 years ago, my best friend hanged himself. we had gone through the university together, did two-man shows featuring his poetry, some stage plays and many a drunken, philosophical night. his death triggered a crapload of work in all media. everything i made on the next six months eemed to have something to do with him, the fact of dying or the sorrow of the grieving. "funeral del poeta", "three consequences" (which i thought was doing much better than this one... :P), "claves oculares".... most of them have some element that relates them. cannibalism was a theme we had talked a lot about, as was autophagy... we envisioned a character that consumed itself or was consumed by himself in his mind, and how this mental state would reflect in the body. so the cutlery symbol appeared in many of them, sometimes only as knives. so, three possibilites for facing death. i looked a lot at people as we buried him, those who broke and those who didn't, those who avoided looking at the casket and those who lingered around (well i had to be half-dragged there but once i did look i felt better. one eye had opened up a little and he seemed to be peeking to see who had showed up, and mocking us somehow). i realize this is overlong, but besides from wanting you to bore you to death i want to also help you understand that it wasn't just gratuitous "coffee table" expressions here. i really don't expect anyone to kiss ass. i see from your comment that you did get most of it but it doesn't touch you, and that's your privilege, of course. the "kiss -ass" bit is disrespectful to the people who did like/ understand /or were touched by this, and it is slighting to me as it assumes that i am here to get my ass kissed. so, thanks, but no thanks.+
